Mechanical watches: how running without a battery works

A mechanical watch runs on a spring, not a battery. Energy is stored in a barrel and then released at a regular rate by an escapement. Two families exist: manual winding, which requires turning the crown, and automatic winding, where a rotor recharges the spring from the movement of your wrist. All 21 models in this collection are automatic.

Mechanical or quartz: what actually differs

Quartz is more accurate (a few seconds a month against a few dozen seconds a day), slimmer and cheaper to maintain. Mechanical needs no battery, can be handed down, and can be repaired for the long term. Neither is superior to the other: they answer different expectations.

Servicing

Wear the watch regularly to keep the power reserve up, avoid strong magnetic fields (speakers, magnetic clasps, magnetic bag flaps) and plan a service every five to seven years if you intend to keep it for a long time.

Sapphire glass and stainless steel cases across the collection, water resistance from 50 to 200 metres. Prices from €110 to €190.
